Moons In Retrograde

Biography:

Moons In Retrograde is a dark alternative solo music project founded by Kara Kuckoo which has been called “Nightmare Trip-Hop Splattered In Body-Paint” due to the dark aesthetic body art which is a central part of the project. Kara is a multi-media installation artist and uses body-paint and other materials to create a dark atmosphere in her online videos and unique performances. Her previous music projects include; gothic rock band, In Winter (Cleveland, Ohio) and trip-hop duo, Azure Noir (Las Vegas, NV.). American born, she now resides in Northern Germany and Moons In Retrograde is based in Flensburg.
Moons In Retrograde is about digging up and reflecting on
buried emotions. It also focuses on the dark aspects of mental health issues, themes of the shadow-self and of society, as well as shining a light into the darkest corners of the mind and exposing the truth about the dark side of humanity. These themes are featured throughout her art, music and videos on YouTube. “It’s about a rotten on the outside look to reflect the rotten on the inside feelings…”

Jeepers Creepers

This upbeat jazz song originally performed by Louis
Armstrong is a popular and upbeat tune from the 1920s. The
title is also associated with the horror movies series also titled, Jeepers Creepers. Perhaps this is why the song popped into my head when I was deciding on which cover song would fit for October / halloween. Moons in retrograde focuses heavily on disturbing imagery which could be considered “horror”. However, I feel more that the imagery plays with themes such as the biological aspects of life, death and decay. Rotten teeth, eyeballs, veins and pallor skin are common in my bodypainting work and reflect my fear and curiosity for “life” after death. These images in my head evoked my first panic attacks and a dark outlook on life. In the past they consumed me but now I consume them. They are a part of me and a part of my art and my raw expression. Paired with my love of the 1920’s aesthetic I felt that Jeepers Creepers would be a perfect cover song which encapsulates the darkness and beauty
together.
